The concept isn't so bad. A dozen or so teams of muscle car builders who have a "list" of their top 10. To move up in the list they have to challenge whomever is next above them.

There's a healthy bit of car work, BS, shenanigans, a bit of drama but it's bearable. Usually they test their modifications on the street and want to avoid the cops or cops show up - its all played up bullshit complete with censoring the cops face and voice. Yet 10 minutes later they're on a professionally lit street strip with 30 people and a dozen cars making dozens of passes - yet no cops show up. Figures.

I do enjoy it though, a lot of the cars are home grown, some unique (a beetle with racing slicks) and some brutally fast cars.

Anyone else watch?

Eh, discovery has been dumbed down for the past few years...

at least it's not history channel with its pawn stars marathons to commemorate memorial day, 4th of July, veterans day, anniversary of the moon landing- basically any major history event

I used to live in okc and I have recognized a few of the places that they test at, some are literally just off the interstate. I recognized a couple of places as private streets to/from warehouses and one of them was a road behind a used car dealership that is a closed road.

They use the term "street" pretty liberally since Oklahoma had no state inspections so once you register a car it never needs to be looked at again, that and the drag slicks (which are not street legal) destroy any legitimacy of the cars being "street" cats.

Thunder valley drag strip is right there in okc, these guys could go, pay the $30, and race all day with trees and timers. I just assume everything they show and do on the program is completely fake, especially since the roads in that area are so full of pot holes that no one would ever be able to make it to the end of a run in one piece.

Have you seen the episodes filmed in "Chicago"? If you look hard enough, you'll see something suspicious with their filming location.......

Ugh, can't stand that crap... that and all the other shows where they throw cash around for "historic" items which are trivial at best. The overproduced characters they try to pass as "authentic" presenters are annoyong as fuck too.

As fake as the show likely is, I enjoy the characters for the most part (Varley kind of pisses me off), and it's entertaining to watch. It's not a show I'm really invested in and absolutely *have* to watch every week, but if I'm able to watch TV and it's on, I'll tune in.

I cant stand it, watched one episode and saw how fake it is. its not as bad as that National Geographic street racing thing they did. the only funny thing about that show was that the street racers thought they were so fast, went to a sanctioned strip to race and just got creamed by everyone there.

Just watch keeping in mind that everything is not always as it appears to be.
